About 100 guests are set to join the Duke of Cambridge at the Princess of Wales’ former home of Kensington Palace for the private reception, and it was speculated that Harry and Meghan would fly from Montecito, California, to the UK in order to attend. But a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has confirmed that they will not be making the trip. The party is intended to thank donors who contributed to the funding for the statue of Princess Diana unveiled last month. Around 100 people are on the guest list including Diana’s friends and family (Elton John reportedly will be there) as well as representatives of her charities. The party was originally supposed to be held back in July to coincide with the unveiling of the statue at the Sunken Garden in Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday, with around 100 people including Diana’s family and friends on the guest list. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was a scaled-back affair in the end. Despite the continuing tension between the royal brothers, Harry traveled from California to London where he and William stood side-by-side as they removed the tarpaulin that until that moment had concealed the sculpture from view. Also in attendance were Diana’s siblings Earl Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes; Ian Rank-Broadley; garden designer Pip Morrison; and Rubert Gavin, the Chair of Historic Royal Palaces.
